Easter Celebration at East Meadow Orthodox Church East Meadow, NY – Today at 12 noon, members of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church here will continue the celebration of Easter which began at midnight last night. The service today will feature hymns, special prayers, and an outdoor procession announcing the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. “Easter is the most sacred and festive day on the Orthodox Christian calendar,” said Karen Trunack of Bellmore who is also a member of Holy Trinity Church, “We celebrate the belief that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, saving humanity from death and sin.” Like Christians of other denominations, Orthodox Christians are celebrating Easter this year on the same date, because of an alignment of calendars. This also occurred last year, and will again happen in 2014. “The message of the resurrection is universal to all of humanity,” said the Father Martin Kraus, “so it’s a wonderful moment when all Christians are celebrating Easter on the same day.” While the services of Holy Week marked the events leading up to the crucifixion and burial of Christ, Easter celebrates the most important event in Christian history: the resurrection. “We believe that Christ died so we can live, and it’s a wonderful experience to celebrate the resurrection in joy and happiness with those in our community,” Father Martin said.
