East Meadow Church to Present A Capella Christmas Concert East Meadow, NY –The Holy Trinity Orthodox Church choir will present a Christmas concert for the general public on Saturday, December 4 at 7 pm. All of the liturgical hymns and traditional carols will be sung in the a capella tradition, that is without instruments. “The songs of this joyous season proclaim the news of Christmas – the birth of Jesus Christ our Savior,” said Nicholas Reeves, parish choir director, “With our voices, we hope to provide a momentary escape from the hustle and bustle of the season.” Among the hymns to be sung will be traditional favorites like Joy to the World and O Come, All Ye Faithful. In addition, hymns unique to the Orthodox Church will be presented including a festal Christmas hymn set to a Serbian melody, and a setting of verses from Isaiah 8 and 9 sung by the choir with a soloist. All of the selections will be sung in English with selected verses in German, Latin, Russian, and Ukrainian. As is customary in the Eastern Orthodox tradition, the choir will sing all of the selections without instrumental accompaniment. “The Orthodox Church has recognized the human voice as being the most perfect instrument to proclaim what we believe in words and music,” Reeves added. The concert is free and open to the public. A festive reception will be held in the church hall at the conclusion of the concert.
